The Mirror That Shows The Truth

Devotional
Imagine looking in a mirror that showed not just your physical appearance, but the true condition of your heart. That's what God's law does for us - it serves as a spiritual mirror, revealing our true condition and our desperate need for a Savior. The law wasn't given to make us righteous or to provide a way to earn God's approval. Instead, it exposes our inability to live up to God's perfect standard. It's like a medical test that reveals a disease - the test doesn't cause the illness, but it shows us what's really there so we can seek proper treatment. Many people approach the Bible's commands as a to-do list for earning God's favor. But when we honestly examine our hearts against God's perfect standard, we quickly realize we fall short. We can't love perfectly, forgive completely, or live selflessly all the time. The law shows us our need for help. This revelation isn't meant to discourage us but to point us toward the only One who can help - Jesus Christ. The law diagnoses our condition, but only Christ can heal us. It's like a doctor who identifies your illness and then refers you to the specialist who has the cure. Once we understand this, we can stop trying to use God's commands as a ladder to climb to heaven and instead see them as a mirror that drives us to the cross. There we find not condemnation, but the grace and mercy we desperately need.

Bible Verse
'But if, in seeking to be justified in Christ, we Jews find ourselves also among the sinners, doesn't that mean that Christ promotes sin? Absolutely not!' - Galatians 2:17

Reflection Question
How has God's law served as a mirror in your life, showing you your need for Jesus rather than your ability to earn righteousness?

Quote
The purpose of the law was to point us to the Savior, not to be the Savior. The law diagnosed, but only Christ can heal.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your law that shows me my true condition and my need for You. Help me to stop trying to earn Your approval and instead run to the cross where I find grace and mercy.
