Grace Finishes What It Starts

Devotional
Have you ever started a project with great enthusiasm, only to lose steam halfway through? Maybe it was a fitness goal, a home renovation, or learning a new skill. We begin with high hopes but often struggle to finish what we start. Thankfully, God's grace operates on a completely different principle. The Galatian believers had started their spiritual journey beautifully - they had received Christ by faith and experienced the power of the Holy Spirit. But now they were being told they needed to switch methods, to move from faith to law-keeping to complete their salvation. Paul's response was essentially, 'Are you crazy? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now trying to finish in the flesh?' This reveals a profound truth about how God works in our lives. The same grace that saved you is the same grace that will sustain you and complete your spiritual transformation. You don't graduate from grace to works, from faith to law-keeping, from dependence on God to self-effort. The Christian life is lived from beginning to end by faith in Christ and dependence on the Holy Spirit. Grace doesn't just get you started - it finishes what it begins. God doesn't save you by grace and then leave you to figure out the rest on your own. He who began a good work in you will complete it. Your spiritual growth, your victory over sin, your service to others - all of it flows from the same source: God's unmerited favor and the Spirit's power. Today, if you're feeling exhausted from trying to live the Christian life in your own strength, remember that grace completes what it starts. Trust in the same power that saved you to transform you daily.

Bible Verse
'Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ' - Philippians 1:6

Reflection Question
In what areas of your spiritual life are you trying to 'finish in the flesh' what God started by His Spirit, and how can you return to depending on His grace?

Quote
Grace begins and completes what it starts.

Prayer
Father, thank You that Your grace doesn't just save me but sustains me every day. Help me stop trying to complete in my own strength what You began by Your Spirit. I trust You to finish what You started. Amen.
