Living in the Truth of Who You Are

Devotional
One of the most powerful truths about the gospel is that it doesn't just promise change someday - it declares change has already happened. When you encounter Jesus Christ, you don't just get a ticket to heaven; you get a completely new identity right now. Paul's life demonstrates this beautifully. He didn't gradually become less of a persecutor and more of a preacher over many years. The moment he encountered Christ, his identity fundamentally shifted. He was still the same person, but he was also completely different. The gospel had given him a new nature, new purposes, and new power. This is where many of us struggle. We know we're saved, but we still feel like the same old person with the same old problems. We're told we have the mind of Christ, but our thoughts don't always feel very Christ-like. We're declared free from every addiction and bondage, but we still struggle with the same temptations. Here's the key: truth is stronger than our feelings or current circumstances. When God declares something about you, it's true whether you feel it or not. You have been changed. You do have the mind of Christ. You are free. These aren't aspirational statements - they're present realities. Living in this truth means praising God for who He says you are, even when your experience doesn't match up yet. It means declaring your freedom even while you're still fighting for it. It means believing God's assessment of your identity over your own feelings or past failures. The gospel offers you a changed life now - not just eventually, but right now. You can be different than you were before you encountered Jesus Christ, because He has already made you different.

Bible Verse
'Jesus is faithful and true, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.' - Revelation 19:11

Reflection Question
What lies about your identity do you need to stop believing, and how can you begin to live more fully in the truth of who God says you are in Christ?

Quote
The full gospel message is that you can have a changed life now. Now, for the rest of your earthly days, you can be different than you were before you encountered Jesus Christ.

Prayer
Father, help me to see myself through Your eyes rather than through my failures or feelings. Thank You that You have already changed me and given me a new identity in Christ. Help me to live in the truth of who You say I am, even when I don't feel it yet. Amen.
