Consider Your Ways

Devotional
Sometimes God has to get our attention before He can redirect our path. For the Israelites returning from exile, that wake-up call came through the prophet Haggai with a simple but powerful command: 'Consider your ways.' The people had returned with a clear mission - to rebuild God's temple. They started with enthusiasm, but when opposition arose, they stopped. Instead of prioritizing God's house, they focused on their own comfort, living in beautiful paneled homes while God's temple remained in ruins. They were busy, productive, and seemingly successful, yet something was deeply wrong. God revealed the cost of their misplaced priorities: they worked hard but saw little fruit, ate but were never satisfied, earned money but it seemed to disappear. Their lives lacked the blessing and fulfillment that comes from putting God first. 'Consider your ways' means taking an honest inventory of our life patterns. What habits are shaping us? Where do we invest our time, energy, and resources? Are we building our own kingdoms while neglecting God's purposes? This isn't about condemnation - it's about course correction. God's invitation to examine our ways comes from His love and desire to bless us. When we align our priorities with His, we discover the satisfaction and purpose our hearts truly crave. The good news is that it's never too late to consider our ways and make necessary changes.

Bible Verse
'Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways!' - Haggai 1:5

Reflection Question
If you were to honestly evaluate where you spend most of your time and energy, what would that reveal about your true priorities, and how do they align with God's purposes for your life?

Quote
Thus says the Lord, consider your ways. Pay attention to the habit patterns that are shaping your life.

Prayer

Father, give me the courage to honestly examine my ways. Show me where I've prioritized my own comfort over Your calling. Help me see clearly and make the changes needed to put You first in every area of my life. Amen.
