Know Their Story

Devotional
Before we can truly help someone, we need to understand their journey. Every person carries a story—experiences that shaped them, wounds that still hurt, and battles they're fighting that we may never see. When we take time to listen and learn about someone's background, something beautiful happens: judgment transforms into compassion. Understanding breeds empathy. The person who seems difficult might be carrying trauma. The one who appears rebellious might be protecting a broken heart. This doesn't excuse sin, but it helps us approach restoration with the right heart. Jesus always saw beyond the surface. He saw the woman at the well's thirst for acceptance, the tax collector's hunger for belonging, and the religious leader's fear of losing control. When we invest in knowing people's stories, we position ourselves to offer the specific help and healing they need.

Bible Verse
'Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.' - Galatians 6:2

Reflection Question
How well do you really know the stories of the people around you who might be struggling?

Quote
The best thing we can do when we see somebody struggling is to get to know them, find out their story. Then we can have compassion. Then we'll have the wisdom from God, how to help them.

Prayer
Father, give me the patience to listen and the wisdom to understand the hearts of those around me. Help me see beyond the surface to their real needs.
