The Only Reward That Matters

Devotional
We live in a culture obsessed with accumulation—more money, larger homes, newer cars, greater influence. Even in our spiritual lives, we can find ourselves chasing external rewards: recognition, positions of leadership, or visible "success" in ministry. But what if we've been focusing on the wrong rewards all along? The truth is startling in its simplicity: the only reward that truly matters is people—those whose lives are eternally transformed through their relationship with Christ. Cars rust, houses crumble, bank accounts empty, but people will exist forever. When we stand before God, material achievements will hold no value, but the souls we've influenced for eternity will be our lasting legacy. This perspective radically changes how we approach life and ministry. Instead of building our own kingdoms, we focus on building God's. Instead of accumulating possessions, we invest in relationships. Instead of seeking personal advancement, we seek opportunities to serve others and share God's love. When we pour ourselves out for others with this eternal perspective, something remarkable happens: God pours His Spirit into us. We become channels of His supernatural power—bringing comfort we couldn't provide on our own, wisdom beyond our education, and transformation beyond our abilities. Our limited human efforts are multiplied by divine intervention. Today, consider what rewards you're truly pursuing. Are you building treasures that will last for eternity, or are you investing in what will ultimately fade away?
Bible Verse
"Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment." - Hebrews 6:1-2
Reflection Question
How might your priorities and daily decisions change if you truly believed that people—and their eternal destinies—are the only reward that matters?
Quote
Those who will be in eternity with us forever and ever. That is the only thing that matters. Nothing else matters. Cars, houses, things don't matter. Eternal reward is people.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive me for being distracted by temporary rewards and achievements. Open my eyes to see people as You see them—eternal souls of immeasurable worth. Help me to invest my time, energy, and resources in what truly matters. Use me as a channel of Your love and power to impact lives for eternity. Reshape my definition of success to align with Your kingdom values. Amen.
