Clinging Close

Devotional
True discipleship isn't about keeping Jesus at arm's length while we manage our own lives. It's about clinging to him so tightly that everything the world throws at us has to go through him first. Picture a child clinging to a parent during a thunderstorm—that's the kind of desperate, trusting dependence Jesus invites us into. When we cling to Christ, we're not showing weakness; we're demonstrating wisdom. We're acknowledging that he's stronger than our circumstances, wiser than our understanding, and more faithful than our feelings. This clinging isn't passive—it's an active choice to stay close, to follow his lead, to trust his protection. The storms of life will come, but when you're clinging to Jesus, those storms encounter him before they encounter you. His strength becomes your strength, his peace becomes your peace, and his victory becomes your victory.

Bible Verse

'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will send you out to fish for people.' - Matthew 4:19

Reflection Question
In what current situation do you need to stop trying to handle things yourself and instead cling more tightly to Jesus?

Quote
If I'm clinging like Clarence is clinging to me, everything the world has to throw at me, they got to go through him.

Prayer
Jesus, teach me to cling to you with childlike trust. Help me find my security in your strength, not my own abilities.
