The Glory of God Appears in Hard Places

? Today’s Reading
Deuteronomy 8:2–5; Hebrews 11:1–6
Key Verse:
“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart.”
— Deuteronomy 8:2
? Devotional: What Is the Wilderness Revealing?
The wilderness wasn't only about changing Israel's location.
God was transforming their hearts.
Deuteronomy 8 tells us that God allowed the wilderness journey to humble and test His people and reveal what was inside them. Pressure has a way of doing that.
When life is comfortable, it's easy to say, “I trust God.” But waiting reveals something.
Disappointment reveals something. Uncertainty reveals something. Being told “not yet” reveals something.
The wilderness brings hidden things to the surface—not so God can shame us, but so He can transform us. Israel struggled with selective memory. When they became uncomfortable, they remembered Egypt's food but forgot Egypt's chains.
We can do the same thing. When God's process becomes uncomfortable, we can begin looking backward and convincing ourselves that what God delivered us from wasn't really that bad.
Don't let temporary discomfort make you forget permanent deliverance. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that faith matters deeply to God. Faith says: “I may not understand where God is taking me, but I remember who He has proven Himself to be.”
Sometimes the greatest weapon against today's doubt is remembering yesterday's faithfulness.
? Personal Reflection
Is selective memory causing you to undervalue what God has already done? Have you become so focused on what hasn't happened yet that you've stopped thanking Him for what He has already brought you through?
✍? Today’s Practical Application
Create a list titled:
“God Has Been Faithful.”
Write down five specific ways God has shown His faithfulness during the past five years.
Keep the list somewhere accessible.
When doubt, fear, frustration, or complaining begins rising, read it again.
Let remembrance strengthen your faith.
?? Closing Prayer
Father, search my heart and reveal anything that needs to change. Forgive me when I remember the comforts of my past but forget the chains You broke to bring me out. Thank You for every prayer You answered, every door You opened, every battle You carried me through, and every moment You remained faithful. When doubt rises, help me remember. Transform my heart so I am ready for everything You have prepared ahead. In Jesus' name, Amen.
? Today’s Reminder
Don't remember Egypt's food and forget Egypt's chains. Remember God's faithfulness and keep moving forward. ❤️?
