Rooted For Growth

Devotional
Have you ever noticed how quickly you can tell what someone truly loves? Within minutes of conversation, their passions become obvious because we naturally talk about what captures our hearts. The same principle applies to our spiritual lives—what we're rooted in becomes evident in our words, actions, and attitudes. If we find ourselves constantly producing worldly fruit instead of spiritual fruit, it might be time to examine where our roots are planted. Just like a tree draws nutrients from its soil, we draw our spiritual strength from whatever we're connected to. When we're rooted in God's Word, prayer, and authentic community, we naturally produce love, joy, peace, and patience. But when we're rooted in comparison, materialism, or isolation, we produce anxiety, bitterness, and selfishness. The beautiful truth is that we can choose where to plant our roots. We can intentionally connect ourselves to sources that will nourish our souls and help us grow into the people God designed us to be.

Bible Verse
'But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.' - Psalm 1:2-3 (New Living Translation)

Reflection Question
Looking at the 'fruit' your life is currently producing, what does it reveal about where your roots are planted?

Quote

Where we're planted determines who we become.

Prayer

Lord, help me plant my roots deep in You. Show me any areas where I've allowed myself to be rooted in things that don't bring life.
