Rising Above the Storm & Taking Flight
Reading
Isaiah 40:28–31; Romans 8:35–37
Key Verse
Isaiah 40:31 — “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles...”
Devotional
An eagle responds differently to a storm.
Instead of exhausting itself fighting against the wind, it can use the rising air created by the storm to climb higher.
The thing pushing against it becomes the thing that helps it rise.
What a picture of faith. There will be storms.
Storms in families.
Storms in relationships.
Storms in finances.
Storms in our thoughts.
Storms we never expected.
God never promised His people a storm-free life. But He did promise renewed strength.
Isaiah doesn't say those who wait upon the Lord will never become tired. It says God will renew their strength.
Waiting isn't doing nothing.
Biblical waiting is an active posture of expectation that says:
“God, I don't know how You're going to do it, but I trust You while I wait.”
You don't have to fight every storm in your own strength.
Sometimes God is teaching you how to spread your wings.
The storm may still be underneath you, but God can change your position in it.
You've learned your identity.
You've walked through the wilderness.
You've learned to use the Word.
You've learned dependence upon the Spirit.
Now—
IT'S TIME TO TAKE FLIGHT.
Personal Reflection
What storm have I been trying to manage completely in my own strength?
What would trusting God in this situation actually look like?
Is there something I'm carrying alone that God never intended me to carry alone?
Life Application
Name one storm you're facing.
Pray specifically over it today and declare God's promises over the situation.
Then take one additional step:
Tell someone.
Ask a trusted believer to pray with you, or submit your need through Praise Tabernacle's prayer request channel.
Faith doesn't require you to carry everything alone.
Closing Prayer
Father, I give You the storm I've been trying to carry in my own strength. Renew me where I'm tired. Strengthen me where I'm weak. Teach me to wait with expectation instead of fear. I believe nothing I am facing is greater than You. Use even this storm to draw me higher, deepen my faith, and prepare me for what is ahead. I choose to trust You, spread my wings, and rise. I am ready to take flight. In Jesus' name, amen.
THIS WEEK'S TAKE FLIGHT CHALLENGE
Look back over the five days and ask yourself:
What is God developing in me before He takes me where He's calling me?
This week:
Know your identity. → Trust God in the wilderness. → Fight with the Word. → Follow the Spirit. → Rise above the storm.
Don't rush the process. God is developing the wings you'll need for where He's taking you.
