Identity Established Before the Journey Begins

Luke 3:22 — “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Devotional
Before Jesus performed a miracle, preached a sermon, healed the sick, or called His disciples, the Father spoke something incredibly important over Him:
Identity.
Jesus hadn't accomplished anything publicly yet, but the Father declared that He was loved, accepted, and pleasing to Him.
That order matters.
Sometimes we live as though God's love is something we have to earn. We measure ourselves by what we've accomplished, what others think about us, mistakes we've made, or even how well we think we're doing spiritually.
But God wants you to begin somewhere different.
Begin with who He says you are.
Psalm 139 reminds us that God knew us before anyone else did. He formed us intentionally and saw every day of our lives before one of them came to be.
Like an eaglet developing safely beneath the covering of its mother, there are seasons when God is forming things within you that others cannot see yet.
You may feel hidden.
You may feel like you're waiting.
You may even wonder why you're not moving faster.
But hidden doesn't mean forgotten.
Formation happens before flight.
Know who you are before you worry about where you're going.
Personal Reflection
Where have I allowed my performance, mistakes, or other people's opinions to define me?
How would I approach my current circumstances differently if I truly believed I am already loved and chosen by God?
Life Application
Write down three statements about your identity that are rooted in Scripture.
Examples:
I am loved by God.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I am chosen for God's purposes.
Speak them aloud every morning this week.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You that my identity is not determined by my accomplishments, failures, or the opinions of others. Help me see myself through Your eyes. When I question who I am, remind me of what You have already spoken over my life. Continue forming me for everything You have prepared for me. Before I take flight, teach me to rest securely in who I am in You. In Jesus' name, amen.
