The Art Of Waiting

Exodus 19:4 — “You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself.”

The Israelites did not arrive at Mount Sinai overnight. Before standing at the mountain and hearing from God, they spent weeks traveling through the wilderness.
They had left Egypt physically, but Egypt had not completely left them internally.
Years of slavery had shaped how they thought, responded, feared, and trusted. God could bring them out of Egypt in a moment, but transforming their hearts would require a process.
And that process included waiting.
We often view waiting as something standing between us and what God has promised. We pray, “Lord, when will this season be over? When will You open the door? When will things finally change?”
But waiting with God is never wasted time.
God uses the in-between seasons to remove what cannot travel with us into the next season. He exposes unhealthy dependencies, strengthens weak areas, develops patience, and teaches us to trust His character even when we cannot see His plan.
Maybe the question isn't simply, “God, when are You going to move me?”
Perhaps the better question is:
“God, what are You doing in me while I wait?”
The wilderness isn't always a detour.
Sometimes the wilderness is the road.

What area of your life are you trying to rush through that God may be asking you to slow down and trust Him in?
What might God be removing, healing, or developing in you during this season?
? Practical Application
Set aside ten uninterrupted minutes today to sit quietly before God.
No phone.
No music.
No list of requests.
Simply pray, “Lord, I am here. Speak to me.”
Then wait.
Resist the urge to fill the silence. Allow yourself to become comfortable simply being in His presence.
? Closing Prayer
Father, teach me the art of waiting. Forgive me for the times I have rushed ahead because I was uncomfortable with Your timing. Help me recognize that You are working even when I cannot see movement. Remove from me anything that cannot go where You are taking me. Give me patience, trust, and a surrendered heart. I choose to believe that this season is not wasted. You are preparing me. In Jesus' name, amen.
