You Are More Ready Than You Think

Devotional
Here is something that might surprise you. God is not looking for the most qualified person in the room. He is looking for the most available one. When God called Moses from the burning bush, Moses pushed back immediately. He listed every reason he was the wrong choice. He was not a good speaker. Nobody would believe him. He was not the right person for the job. And honestly, from a human perspective, he had a point. He was a fugitive with a failed track record. But God was not confused about who He was calling. Paul makes this same point in 1 Corinthians 1. God intentionally chooses what the world considers weak and foolish, so that when something remarkable happens, nobody walks away thinking it was about human talent or effort. Your weakness is not the thing keeping you from being used by God. It might actually be the very thing that qualifies you. When you have nothing left to rely on in yourself, you finally make room for Him to work. That is not a discouraging thought. It is one of the most freeing truths in Scripture. You do not have to have it all together. You do not have to be the most capable person. You just have to be willing. God has always done His best work through people who knew they could not do it on their own. You are in good company.
Bible Verse
"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong." - 1 Corinthians 1:27 (New Living Translation (NLT))
Reflection Question
Is there an area of your life where you have disqualified yourself from being used by God, and what would it look like to offer that weakness to Him instead?
Quote
"I don't want to pick the capable. Because when it's all said and done, they'll go, I was capable. That's how this got done. He says, I'm going to pick the incapable. So when all said and done, they're going to go, yeah, I don't know how it happened, but it wasn't me."
Prayer
God, I release the idea that I have to be capable before You can use me. Take my weaknesses and do what only You can do through them. Amen.
