You Are Not an Orphan

Devotional
One of the quietest lies many believers carry is this: I don't really belong. I'm on the outside looking in. I have to earn my place or prove my worth. That lie has a name. It's the orphan Spirit. And it shows up in two very recognizable ways. Some people run from God, only returning when life falls apart and they need something. Others stay close but work out of duty, doing all the right things while never truly feeling like they belong. Both patterns come from the same root: not fully receiving the Father's love. But Romans 8 says something that should stop us in our tracks. We are children of God. Not employees. Not guests. Not people on probation. Children. Heirs. Fully in the family. You have an inheritance. You have a place at the table. You are not on the outside. The Father is not waiting for you to earn your way in. He already ran toward you before you even turned around. You are not an orphan. You never were. Let that truth settle somewhere deep today.

Bible Verse
"And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God's glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering." - Romans 8:17 (New Living Translation (NLT))

Reflection Question
Which pattern do you relate to more: running from the Father until you're desperate, or staying close but working out of duty rather than love, and what does that reveal about how you see your place in His family?

Quote
"The Spirit of God doesn't just give us direction, it points to us, to our identity. We have an identity in God. Our identity is sons and daughters of God. He is our Father and we are His children. We have a place in his household. We're not orphans anymore."

Prayer

Father, I receive today what I have struggled to believe: that I am Your child and I belong. Heal every place in me that has lived like an orphan, and let Your love be the foundation I stand on. Amen.
