From Fire of Hell to Fire of God

Devotional
There's a powerful image in Zechariah's vision that captures the complete transformation God offers us. Joshua is described as "a burning stick snatched from the fire." Picture a piece of wood that was destined to be consumed by flames, but at the last moment, someone reaches in and pulls it out. That's us—we were headed for destruction, but God reached into the fire and snatched us out. But the story doesn't end with rescue. God doesn't just save us from the fire of hell—He fills us with the fire of God. We become His burning men and women, His burning sticks. The same element that would have destroyed us now empowers us. We're no longer consumed by destructive fire; we're filled with the fire of the Holy Spirit. This transformation is complete and radical. It's not just about changing our behavior or trying harder to be good. It's about becoming entirely new people. The fire that once threatened to destroy us now burns within us as passion for God, love for others, and power to live differently. Think about what fire does—it provides light in darkness, warmth in cold places, and power to accomplish work. When we're filled with God's fire, we become sources of light in dark situations, warmth in cold relationships, and power to see God's kingdom advance. The beautiful truth is that this isn't something we have to work up or manufacture. God does the snatching, and God does the filling. Our part is simply to yield to His transforming work and allow His fire to burn brightly through us.
Bible Verse
'Then I said, "Put a clean turban on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood by.' - Zechariah 3:5
Reflection Question
How can you allow God's fire to burn more brightly through you in your daily life, and what areas of your life still need to be transformed from destructive fire to God's empowering fire?
Quote
We were snatched out of that fire, Snatched out. And now we become his burning man, his burning woman, his burning stick.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for snatching me from the fire of destruction and filling me with Your holy fire. Help me to burn brightly for You in every area of my life. Let Your fire within me bring light to dark places and warmth to cold hearts. Use me as Your burning stick to advance Your kingdom. Amen.
