The Heart Of A Missionary God

Devotional
Have you ever wondered what motivated Jesus to leave the perfection of heaven? Picture the glory, the worship, the absolute peace—and then imagine choosing to step into our messy, broken world. That's exactly what Jesus did, and it reveals something profound about God's heart. Jesus didn't come as a tourist or a distant observer. He came as a missionary, crossing the ultimate cultural divide between heaven and earth. He entered our struggles, our pain, and our desperate need for hope. This wasn't a reluctant duty—it was love in action. When we look at Jesus' life, we see someone who consistently reached across barriers. He spoke to Samaritans when Jews avoided them, touched lepers when others feared them, and welcomed children when disciples dismissed them. Every interaction was a cross-cultural moment of bringing good news to someone who needed it. This same heart beats within every follower of Christ today. The missionary call isn't reserved for a select few with special training or extraordinary courage. It's woven into the very fabric of what it means to follow Jesus. When we say yes to Him, we're saying yes to His heart for the world. The beautiful truth is that God doesn't ask us to manufacture compassion for the lost—He invites us to share in His already-existing love for them. As we draw closer to Jesus, His heart for the nations naturally becomes ours. We begin to see people through His eyes and feel the urgency He feels for those who don't yet know Him.
Bible Verse
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." - Matthew 28:19
Reflection Question
How does understanding Jesus as the ultimate missionary change your perspective on your own calling to reach others with the gospel?
Quote
Jesus is a missionary. He left the kingdom of heaven to come to a different culture, to a culture on earth that is broken, that is struggling, that is desperate. He crossed cultures to bring the good news.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for leaving heaven's glory to rescue me. Help me to see the world through Your eyes and to embrace the missionary heart You've placed within me. Show me how to cross barriers in my own community to share Your love.
