Where Is My Honor?

Devotional
Imagine if your child consistently gave you their leftover attention—only talking to you when they needed something, showing more respect to their friends than to you, and treating your words as suggestions rather than wisdom. How would that make you feel as a parent? God asks a piercing question through the prophet Malachi: 'If I am a father, where is my honor?' This isn't God having an ego problem; it's a loving Father expressing the pain of a relationship that has grown cold and casual. We often honor everyone else—our bosses, our friends, even strangers—while treating God like He should be grateful for whatever scraps of attention we throw His way. Honor isn't about fear or religious performance. It's about recognizing who God truly is and responding with the respect and love that relationship deserves. When we understand that the Creator of the universe wants a personal relationship with us, when we grasp that He loves us enough to send His Son to die for us, honor becomes a natural response. The beautiful thing about God's heart is that He doesn't just point out the problem—He offers to fix it. He's not looking for perfect people; He's looking for people with hearts that are turned toward Him. When we begin to see God for who He really is, our casual approach transforms into genuine reverence and love. Today, consider how you can show God the honor He deserves, not out of obligation, but out of a heart that truly recognizes His worth.

Bible Verse
'A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the Lord of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?' - Malachi 1:6

Reflection Question
In what areas of your life do you show more honor and respect to people than you do to God?

Quote
God values the heart of worship. He values the heart behind the worship even more than the act itself.

Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I've treated You casually while showing greater respect to others. Help me to see You for who You truly are—my loving Father who deserves my honor, respect, and wholehearted devotion. Transform my heart so that honoring You becomes as natural as breathing. Amen.
