The Freedom Of Forgiveness

Devotional
Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It hurts us far more than it hurts them. Yet we often cling to our grudges, believing they somehow protect us or serve justice. The truth is that unforgiveness builds a wall between us and God. It blocks the flow of His blessings and keeps us trapped in a cycle of pain. No matter how justified our anger might seem, holding onto it only prolongs our suffering. Forgiveness isn't about excusing harmful behavior or pretending it didn't happen. It's about releasing our right to revenge and entrusting justice to God. It's acknowledging that we've received forgiveness ourselves and extending that same grace to others. Remember, forgiveness is not primarily a feeling but a choice—a decision to release someone from the debt they owe us. When we forgive, we're not saying what happened was okay; we're saying we won't let it control us anymore. This choice sets us free to experience God's healing and restoration.

Bible Verse
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16

Reflection Question
Is there someone in your life you need to forgive, and how might your reluctance to forgive be affecting your relationship with God and others?

Quote
Unforgiveness brings a wall up between heaven and earth. There is no blessing when heaven is shut and we can still be a Christian.

Prayer

Father of mercy, I confess that I've been holding onto unforgiveness. Today, I choose to release those who have hurt me into Your hands. I recognize that I've been forgiven much, so I must forgive others. Help me to let go of bitterness and embrace the freedom that comes through forgiveness. Fill the empty spaces with Your love and healing. In Jesus' name, amen.
