Called To Radical Obedience

Devotional
God has a fascinating way of selecting His messengers. When He needed someone to deliver a challenging message to nations steeped in rebellion, He didn't choose a renowned scholar or powerful leader. Instead, He called Amos, a simple shepherd. This reminds us that God's qualification system differs dramatically from the world's. He looks at the heart, not the resume. Amos's message was radical—not because it demanded extraordinary feats, but because it called people back to God's standard of living. In our world today, following God's ways often appears radical because it runs counter to prevailing cultural norms. But from God's perspective, obedience isn't radical at all—it's simply the standard He's always maintained. When we drift from God's ways, we don't just break rules; we break His heart. Our rebellion weighs on Him because He cares deeply about our wellbeing and knows the destruction sin brings into our lives. His correction comes not from anger but from love. Today, consider where God might be calling you to radical obedience. Is there an area of your life where you've been resisting His standard? Remember, the most ordinary person who says yes to God can be used in extraordinary ways.

Bible Verse
"The words of Amos, who was among the sheepherders from Tekoa, which he envisioned in visions concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake." - Amos 1:1

Reflection Question
In what area of your life might God be calling you to step out in radical obedience, even if you feel ordinary or unqualified?

Quote
"It's interesting how God selects some of the most simplest people to do the radicalist things."

Prayer
Lord, thank You for using ordinary people like me to accomplish Your purposes. Help me recognize where I've drifted from Your standards and give me courage to obey, even when it seems radical to those around me. Use my simple yes for Your extraordinary glory. Amen.
